Capital Transit offers several types of service for your convenience.
Fixed Routes
Blue and Red Fixed Route buses run hourly on weekdays between 6:30 AM – 6:00 PM, serving all fixed route stops within the City of Helena. All buses are ADA accessible.
** Please be advised of the following:
- These buses are taken out of service daily between 11:00 AM & 1:00 PM sanitizing/cleaning and driver lunch break.
ADA Paratransit Service
Starts at 6:30 AM and ends at 5:30 PM. Please refer to the ADA Complementary Paratransit Service Policies and Procedures.

The East Valley Bus
The East Valley Bus is a combination service known as a “Deviated Fixed Route” that provides service to established stops and ADA Paratransit Service in the East Valley/East Helena Service Area with set stops at East Helena City Hall, East Helena Library, Apartment Complex at the intersection of Beechnut & Old lake Helena Drive, Pure View and Walmart. The East Valley/East Helena bus runs run hourly on weekdays starting and ending at the Capital Transit Office. The hours of operation are 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
** Please be advised of the following:
- The bus is taken out of service daily between 11:00 AM & 1:00 PM sanitizing/cleaning and driver lunch break.
- All Paratransit riders using the East Valley/East Helena bus needing to reach destinations within the City of Helena must schedule a City of Helena Paratransit bus that originates from the Capital Transit Facility, all such trips must be scheduled the day before the requested trip as there is limited capacity on all bus’s. There are no call-in stops for the East Valley/East Helena Service.
- The East Valley Service is separate from the services provided within the City of Helena. Therefore, the required fare to ride City of Helena services must be paid in addition to the cost of riding the East Valley/East Helena bus services.

- Example: 0.85 cents to ride East Valley bus into City of Helena then 0.85 cents to ride either the Fixed Route Bus or City of Helena Paratransit Service. Please be advised this example is of a one-way trip, appropriate fares must be paid for the return trip as well.
Total cost of this round-trip example: $3.40.
FAQ
- Do you run on weekends or Holidays?
- No – there is no service on the weekends.
- Yes – service is provided on certain Holidays, refer to Federal Holidays.
- I am confined to a wheel chair can I ride the bus?
- Yes –all buses are ADA compliant and equipped with a wheel chair lift.

- Can the fixed route buses drop me off somewhere else other than a bus stop?
- No – the Red and Blue lines do not deviate from their scheduled routes.
- I have a bicycle. Can I put it on the bus?
- Bicycles are allowed only on the route buses. The route buses are the fixed route lines, and the East Valley Bus Deviated Fixed ADA Origin to Destination Para Transit Service bus. It is the responsibility of the rider to load and unload their bicycle from the bike racks.
- Can I bring my animal on the bus?
- Only service animals are allowed to ride on the buses as long as they are under the control of their owner. Other animals not meeting the definition of a service animal must be placed in an appropriately designed and constructed animal carrier, boxes are not considered animal carriers in most instances.
- I have a baby, are there car seats on the buses?
- The newer buses are equipped with car seats, the older buses are not. At no time may a child ride in a stroller while on the bus. The child must be held or placed in a car seat.

- Does the Bus Driver have change?
- No, please bring the correct fare amount with you.
- Where can I buy tokens or bus passes?
- Due to the current world heath event, passes and tokens can only be purchased online or at the Capital Transit office located at 1415 North Montana Avenue.

In person purchases: Please call 447-8081 to schedule an appointment to complete an in-person purchase. Also please bring correct amount of change or make checks payable to Capital Transit. Credit cards are accepted for online purchases only.
- Can I eat and drink on the bus?
- No – food and drinks are prohibited from the bus.
- Do I have to pay for my child or my attendant to ride the bus?
- Attendants and children 6 years old or younger ride free.
